The Rectangle tool draws rectangular rooms and areas on your map. Press R or B+3 to select it.

Drawing Rectangles

Click and drag to draw a rectangle. When two rectangles are drawn adjacent to each other, a wall is automatically created between them. This is useful for drawing rooms that share a wall.

To remove the shared wall, either overlap the two rectangles or draw over the wall using another tool afterwards.

Tool Settings

Mode

Sets whether the tool draws or erases. Press E to toggle between Draw and Erase mode.

Snap

When Snap is on, rectangles align to the grid based on the current Division setting. Press S to toggle snapping on or off.

Division

Sets the snapping resolution as a fraction of a grid cell. At 1/1, a rectangle snaps to full grid squares. At 1/2, it snaps to half-cell increments, allowing four rectangles to fit within a single grid square. At 1/3, it snaps to third-cell increments, and so on.

To set the division with a keyboard shortcut, press Shift+S followed by a number representing the denominator. For example, Shift+S then 2 sets 1/2 cell snapping, and Shift+S then 3 sets 1/3 cell snapping.

Rough mode

When Rough mode is on, an additional step allows you to control how irregular the rectangle's outline appears. After drawing your shape, a line connects your cursor to the edge of the shape. The further you move your cursor away from the shape, the more irregular the outline becomes. This mode is useful for drawing caves or natural terrain.

Press Shift+R to toggle Rough mode on or off with a keyboard shortcut.
