Clicking the Scrawl button at the top of the Sidebar Menu opens the Presets panel in the left sidebar. The Presets panel is the starting point for creating and styling layers on your map

Presets

Presets are the starting point for creating and styling layers in Dungeon Scrawl. The panel is divided into three sections:

  • Dungeon Presets
  • World Building Presets (Pro Feature)
  • Custom Presets (Pro Feature)

Applying Presets

Hover over any preset to reveal two options:

  • Add new layer: creates a new layer above the existing one using the selected preset style.
  • Apply to current layer: overwrites the settings of the currently selected layer with those of the preset. Use this to quickly swap styles or reset a layer to its default settings.

If adding a second preset changes the overall appearance of your map in an undesired way, select the layer you want to keep and click Apply to current layer to restore it.

Tip: If adding presets changes your Background layer in an undesirable way, click the padlock icon next to it in the Layers menu. This prevents the background settings from being overwritten when new layers are added.

Dungeon Presets

Dungeon Presets are the core map styles available to all users. Each preset creates a Dungeon layer with its own combination of walls, floor, grid, shadow, hatching, and shading settings. The Fog of War preset is also found in this section. See Layer Settings for more information.

World Building Presets (Pro Feature)

World Building Presets allow you to quickly add environmental features to your maps, such as forests, rivers, roads, or lava fields. They work the same way as Dungeon Presets; hover over a preset and choose to add a new layer or apply it to the current one. Lock your Background layer if you want to prevent the background settings from being overwritten.

Custom Presets (Pro Feature)

Custom Presets allow you to save your own layer styles and reuse them across maps and sessions. They work the same way as Dungeon Presets and World Building Presets once saved.

Note: Custom Presets do not save styling changes made to the Background layer.

Saving a Custom Preset

  • Customise your layer settings in the Layer Settings panel in the right sidebar.
  • Click the + Save a Preset Style button under Custom Presets in the Presets panel.
  • Enter a name for the preset and press Enter. A preview thumbnail will generate automatically.

Managing Custom Presets

  • Rename a preset at any time by double-clicking its name.
  • Hover over a preset thumbnail to reveal the following options:
  • Delete (trash icon): permanently removes the preset from your library.
  • Update (circular arrows icon): updates the preset to match the current layer settings.

Note: updating or deleting a Custom Preset does not affect maps that were previously created using it.
