Here’s an overview of the features that come with a Dungeon Scrawl Pro account, and how to get the most out of them.
Library and Autosave
Your maps and projects will be automatically saved to cloud storage to keep track of everything you've done! You will never need to hit Ctrl+S again!
You can read more about the Library and Autosave features here!
World Building Presets
World Building Presets allow you to quickly add lush forests, rivers and moats, winding roads, or molten lava fields to your maps in just a few clicks.
Floor and Background Textures
Floor Textures
Applicable to individual, non-background map layers, Floor Textures are automatically masked within shapes, allowing you to apply details previously only accomplished by hand-drawing.

- Customize the scaling of each, and rotate them to face whichever direction you prefer to indicate flow or best complement your design.
- With your layer selected, choose from four drop-down Floor Textures under the Floor Options heading (in color or black and white).
Background Textures
Background Textures let you define the environment of your map at a glance, applying elements like grass, stone, or snow across the entire background.

After selecting the Background layer of your map, choose from six drop-down Background Texture options (each available in color or black and white).
- Customize the scaling of each texture to your preference, and incorporate color blending to fine-tune the look.
- Click the padlock icon next to the Background layer to lock your style once finalized, ensuring that it remains even when adding new layers.
Map Sharing
Collaboration and sharing just got a lot easier, letting you share maps with players, hand off files to GMs, or collaborate with other creators! Pro subscribers can now generate a shareable link for any of their cloud-saved maps from the Export panel.

- Anyone can open the link (even free users or those without a Dungeon Scrawl account) to open a unique copy of your map
- They’re free to save, export, or modify the map without making changes to your original
- If they have a Pro subscription, a copy will automatically sync to their cloud library
Plus, if you ever change your mind and decide you don’t want anyone new accessing your map, you can turn off sharing to prevent future access (existing copies remain available).
Custom Image Favorites
Favorites let you easily find and reuse images across maps, keeping your go-to props, icons, and decorations within reach. Favorite images by clicking the star in their upper-right-hand corner. You’ll see them populate under the new “Favorites” heading of the Image panel.
- Everyone can favorite Free Images found in the Dungeon Scrawl library. Non-subscribers simply need to make an account, so their favorites can be connected to their login.
- Dungeon Scrawl Pro users can also save up to 100 Custom Images as favorites, making it easy to build a personal library of uploaded tokens you’ve designed or downloaded from Roll20, DriveThruRPG, or other marketplaces.
Dark Mode
Click the moon icon in the top right to switch to Dark Mode 😎. Put on your cartographing sunglasses and map away.
Commercial Use License
Commercial use of Dungeon Scrawl Maps requires a Dungeon Scrawl Pro subscription at the time of map creation. Click here to read more about attribution requirements.
PDF Export
Export a map across multiple PDF pages with real-world cell size and printer margins all taken care of.
- Select a paper size
- Set the margin - use the minimum margin that your printer supports
- Set the printing resolution - this controls how many pixels are in one inch
- Set the real-world cell size - printed cells will have this width
High res export
Surpass browser image export resolution limits using Dungeon Scrawl servers (required an internet connection).
If you see a warning when exporting that the exported image might be too large for the browser to handle, click “High-res export → On”. This will send the export off to my servers to be processed and exported for you.
Currently, the output image may have some extra blank space to the right and bottom - this is being worked on.
With a pro account you can also export at greater than 100 px per cell, which is useful if you want to create high-quality prints of your maps.
Multiple maps per save file
Store multiple locations in one save file to avoid switching between tabs, or fiddling with keeping them apart in the same map.
- Click “Add a map” in the top right
- Double click on the map names to give them helpful names
Import one save file into another
Do you have two save files you want to combine? Or perhaps there’s a dungeon you want to copy and paste into another save file. Clicking the “Import from save file” button allows you to do this.
It will add any maps from the imported save file into the current one. They’ll be added as separate maps in the top right menu, so they won’t interfere with the existing dungeon.
Paper Texture Overlays
Click the crumpled paper icon in the left sidebar, then select one of the paper textures.
You have control over the texture scale and opacity:
- Scale: controls the size of the texture. The smaller the scale, the smaller the texture details.
- Opacity: controls the opacity of the paper texture. You can think of it as a ‘strength’ slider for the texture effect.
Lighting
This feature is still under development. Exports don’t work yet, and having many lights will slow down the tool quite a lot
Click the lightbulb button on the left to open the lighting tab. Here, you can turn on lighting for a map, add lights, and set the ambient background lighting color.
Lights can be moved around with the object tool just like any other image.
This is an early feature which doesn’t work very well yet, but it’s a lot of fun to play with!
