On March 3rd, 2025 at 5:29 PM to 7:34 PM ET (20:29 - 22:29 UTC) there was an active issue which specifically caused character sheets using the D&D 2024 sheet to be wiped and lose data. This issue was caused by opening the sheet which would trigger a scan for updates from an inaccessible “draft” copy of a sheet reserved for saving progress within the builder. This draft, if empty, would default the sheet to a blank version.
We have released a fix for this that prevents the issue going forwards and any characters are now fully safe to open.
However, the following situations are still ongoing:
1- Sheets that were opened within a game that were wiped will still be blank. These sheets should be recoverable via a Rollback (Steps outlined below).
2- Sheets opened within Roll20 Characters that were wiped will still be blank.
- If the sheet was linked to a game, it can be recovered by performing a Rollback on the corresponding game.
- If the sheet was not linked to a game it is not able to be recovered at this time.
To help alleviate issues caused by this release, we are making the Rollback feature available to all users, regardless of subscription level, for the duration of March. This will allow the Creator of affected games to perform a Rollback on their game to recover lost character information.
Please note that Rollbacks are only available up to 7 days in the past.
How to use Rollbacks
Rollbacks are a Pro feature (Temporarily available to all users) that allow you to restore a game to a previous save state from days prior. These are “snap shots” taken once per day. As a result, changes made in-between snap shots can sometimes not appear (i.e. creating then deleting a handout between saves). Further, Rollbacks affect the entire game, it is not possible to only rollback sheets, or maps, etc. The steps below should help with walking through best practices when performing Rollbacks.
1- Before performing a Rollback, you should first make a copy of your game in its current state. This will preserve changes you may have made before the snap shot so they are not lost. Any missing data can then be copied or replicated within the original after the Rollback is complete.
2- To access Rollbacks, navigate to the affected game and click the “Settings” dropdown on the game details page. Click “Roll Back Game”
3- Select a date to perform your rollback to. Please note: Due to the time required to gather snapshots for all games, the timeframe can occasionally be off by about a day. It is recommended that you rollback to one day further than you might expect.
4- Open your game and verify if the Rollback worked. If not, then try one of the other days on the list. If you have attempted all Rollback dates, and still have not recovered your character information, please contact our support team with a link to your game and the names of affected characters so we can attempt to assist further.
